Bittersweet

The last 48 hours have been bittersweet for me. My wife and I had a great time last night, celebrating my birthday early with some friends. First we enjoyed some Malbec at Boozefish and then headed up to The Brick to hear an alt-country band, The Roseline, I had heard good things about. Nothing disappointed. Thanks Di for the yummy cake, too.

Speaking of carbo-loading, don’t be surprised if I try and drag some of you back to The Brick for the Sat. morning $3.95 Biscuit & Gravy deal–$1 bloody mary’s, too.

Yesterday, was also sad for me in a way because an agent at JABberwocky I had been pitching my book to–and he had been very encouraging–decided to hang it up right before I could re-submit some items to him.

Alas, one door closes and another opens, as I’ll be meeting tomorrow with Chris McKitterick, who has graciously agreed to review a portion of my manuscript while he’s at ConQuesT 39. In fact, I headed over to the con for a few hours today, attending several of the panel discussions, and, as a result, met Sandy Lender, the author of Choices Meant for Gods. She and several other writers spoke about blogs and how they use them.

While all of the panelists spoke intelligently on the subject, I took the most away from Sandy and Jim Murray’s perspectives and experiences. One interesting thing you’ll notice from Sandy’s blog is that she writes some of her posts from the POV of her character Nigel. And, in many cases, Nigel will provide commentary on Sandy’s gaffs. Clever.

I’ll offer a few more thoughts on the con after tomorrow’s meeting with Chris. Wish me luck.

You left us hanging! How did the conversation go with Chris McKitterick?
You know, “Google Alerts” is supposed to tell me when people use my name in their posts. Technology fails again. Now, a week later, I thank you for the kind words about the blogging session at ConQuesT. It’s a realm that can pull you in and not let you out…This is a very nicely organized site, by the way. I’m gathering ideas. Bwuahahahahaha.

Thanks for the positive comments on the site–the content is actually due for an overall because I’ve made several revisions since I first launched in Jan.

BTW…provided an update on the meeting with Chris–it serves as cornerstone for a larger discussion. Didn’t intend to leave you hanging. I’m working at a once a week pace, if I’m lucky, but that needs to change. Part of the reason I attended the panel.

Will definitely drop you another note when I finish the book.

Thanks again.

Best,
Range
